As you may heave read by now, it appears that YouTube is about to take on the cable industry with a new initiative in television. The news released Friday announced over 100 channels that are about to jump in the new market, and several of these channels are about to tackle the urban comedy scene.
Up first in the market is Jeff Clanagan, one of the partners in the new Comedy Shaq Network, as he has partnered with former NBA All Star Shaquille O’Neal to launch their own comedy channel. As you can imagine, this channel will have exclusive content because of the behind-the-scenes footage that will be gathered from the Shaq All Star Comedy Jam Tour. What you can also expect from the channel is some exclusive content as we confirmed that Clanagan has licensed the rights to the entire Def Comedy Jam Library (which is 7 seasons which includes 101 episodes) but at this point we don’t know what his roll out strategy for the series is yet. After all, he produced and released Kevin Hart’s Laugh At My Pain theatrical film and it has grossed 7.6 million dollars, which is well above any Hollywood expectation for a stand up comedy feature.
There will be no doubt that lots of content from the tour of both brands will be made available to the viewer, but what other content that will be available will be a mystery. What is for sure is that whatever you think may happen, Clanagan has time and time again shocked the industry and always done the unexpected.
With the Codeblack library at his disposal (Clanagan is the CEO of Codeblack Entertainment with over 200 titles under the brand), plus the above mentioned content it seems that Clanagan has a head start on many of the channels included in the initial launch.
Only time will tell.
On Saturday, November 26, 2011, Miami Dolphins tight end Anthony Fasano is hosting a charity comedy event headlined by “30 Rock” actor Tracy Morgan. The event, which benefits nonprofit organization Rebuilding Together: Veterans Housing, takes place at The Fillmore Miami Beach. Doors open at 7:00pm, show starts at 8:00pm. Tickets for “The Anthony Fasano Foundation Presents Tracy Morgan Live” can be found through Live Nation & Ticketmaster.
Rebuilding Together is a nonprofit organization working to preserve affordable home ownership and revitalize communities. The organization’s national initiative “Veterans Housing” was created to meet the growing needs of veterans from past and present wars. They provide home repair services for retired and active service members by increasing the home’s accessibility, enabling veterans to live independently and safely in their own homes.
Tracy Morgan, one of America’s most recognizable comedians, is currently starring on NBC’s Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning “30 Rock,” where Morgan appears opposite Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin. In 2009, Morgan received his first Emmy Nomination for this role, in the Supporting Actor category. As a stand-up comic who has headlined across the country, Morgan was first introduced to television audiences in his role as Hustleman on the hit comedy series “Martin.” He went on to join “Saturday Night Live” in 1996 where he appeared for seven seasons. Morgan rounded out his list of comedic achievements with his first HBO Special, “Tracy Morgan: Black and Blue,” which aired in November 2010.
Miami Dolphins tight end Anthony Fasano started his Foundation in an effort to support families in need in his home state of New Jersey and in Florida. For the last four years, Fasano has run an Annual Golf Classic in New Jersey benefitting the REED Academy, a school serving children with Autism, as well as a Bocce Tournament that provides families in New Jersey and Florida with food during Thanksgiving and gifts during the Holidays. “I have always wanted to do an event that benefits military families” says Fasano. “I am so happy that I can accomplish this goal with the first of my Foundations events being held in Miami, Florida.”
